The Minority in Parliament has assured Ghanaians that the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration will promptly address the financial requirements for the first quarter of 2025 after taking office on January 7, 2025.

This assurance follows the failure of Finance Minister Dr. Amin Adam to present the 2025 mini-budget to Parliament for the approval of expenditure in advance of appropriation.

On Friday, December 20, 2024, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin adjourned the House until January 2, 2025, leaving the matter unresolved.

In a statement, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson expressed disappointment with the outgoing government’s inaction, noting that the Minority had anticipated a more responsible approach.

Dr. Forson, who represents Ajumako Enyan Essiam, cautioned that the absence of a mini-budget could jeopardize critical services and obligations, ultimately burdening ordinary citizens. He also warned that Ghanaians would hold the Akufo-Addo administration accountable for any resulting disruptions or unmet commitments.

“There is no need for panic,” the statement reassured. “Even though there will be no Minister of Finance on January 7, 2025, the Vice President can present the expenditure in advance of appropriation to this House after the swearing-in, and Parliament will be fully constituted to expedite its approval.”

The Minority pledged its readiness to act swiftly to ensure the country’s financial stability under the leadership of the incoming government.

The Minority Leader has reiterated his dedication to protecting the welfare of Ghanaians, emphasizing that proactive steps will be implemented to avert additional economic challenges.

He further called on the outgoing government to own up to its responsibilities, ensuring that the transitional period is managed effectively to avoid unnecessary financial strain on the nation.
