Nations FC Faces Sanctions After Walk-Off Against Basake Holy Stars

Nations FC’s controversial decision to walk off the pitch during their Ghana Premier League clash with Basake Holy Stars has sparked disciplinary action from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), with potential penalties including a six-point deduction and a fine of GHC 5,000.

The GFA is expected to invoke Article 33, Section 1A of its regulations, which imposes strict sanctions on any team that abandons a match without justifiable cause. Should the ruling be upheld, Basake Holy Stars would receive half of the fine as compensation, in line with GFA rules.

The walk-off, reportedly ordered by Nations FC owner Dr. Kwame Kyei, was attributed to alleged biased officiating and concerns over match security. However, post-match footage has largely validated the referee’s decisions, raising doubts about the legitimacy of the club’s protest.

The incident has cast a shadow over the integrity of the league, with the GFA under pressure to respond firmly and set a clear precedent. League officials and fans alike are calling for a strong stance to preserve the credibility of Ghanaian football.

“This is a serious breach of professionalism and league protocol,” a source close to the GFA stated. “We must ensure that match outcomes are respected and disputes handled through the proper channels—not by walking off the pitch.”

Nations FC now finds itself in a reputational crisis, and the club’s response in the coming days will be critical. Any official punishment could have a significant impact on their league standing and broader image within Ghanaian football.
