Black Stars plummet in latest FIFA Rankings

Ghana has slipped three places in the latest FIFA World Rankings, released on Thursday, October 24, 2024, following a series of poor results in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The Black Stars, previously ranked 70th with 1360 points, have now dropped to 73rd place with 1338 points.

This decline comes after Ghana’s disappointing goalless draw with Sudan in Accra and a 2-0 defeat in the return leg against Libya. These performances have left Ghana on the brink of elimination, sitting at the bottom of Group F with just two points from four matches. Sudan, in contrast, holds second place in the group with seven points.

Despite their recent struggles, Ghana remains 14th in the African rankings. Morocco leads the continent, ranked 13th in the world, followed by Senegal (20th), Egypt (30th), Nigeria (36th), Algeria (37th), Côte d’Ivoire (40th), Tunisia (47th), Cameroon (49th), Mali (54th), DR Congo (57th), South Africa (60th), Burkina Faso (62nd), Cape Verde (72nd), and then Ghana at 73rd.

As the AFCON qualification campaign nears its end, Ghana will face Angola and Niger in their final two matches, hoping to secure a spot in the tournament in Morocco.
