The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has named Philip Kwabena Agyemang, known popularly as Roman Fada, as its new presidential candidate for the 2024 elections. This announcement follows the Electoral Commission’s (EC) recent directive giving the party a 10-day period to appoint a replacement after the sudden passing of its founder and former flagbearer, Akua Donkor.
Roman Fada, who had been Madam Donkor’s running mate prior to her passing, was chosen after extensive discussions among party leaders to facilitate a seamless transition.
In a statement issued by GFP’s General Secretary, George Afful, it was noted that Roman Fada’s nomination would soon be officially submitted to the EC. The party also acknowledged that Roman Fada had previously expressed his readiness to assume the flagbearer role if needed and legally permitted.
Madam Akua Donkor passed away at Ridge Hospital on Monday, October 28, 2024.
