Ghana’s Black Queens suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Morocco in an international friendly on Friday night at the Père Jégo Stadium in Casablanca.
Despite putting up a spirited performance, the Queens were undone by a late goal from Saoud Imane, who capitalized on a defensive lapse in extra time to secure victory for the hosts.
Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren expressed disappointment over the result, insisting his side deserved at least a draw after their hard-fought display.
“This is the worst feeling for a coach and a player. When you work hard throughout the game, you deserve a draw,” the Swedish tactician told GFA media.
He lamented the missed opportunities, saying, “We had chances to win, and then, unfortunately, the ball bounces their way in the end, and they score when there’s almost no time left.”
Despite the setback, Bjorkegren commended his players for their resilience and commitment, especially given their limited training time together.
“I’m really proud of the girls. They worked hard despite not having many training sessions together. The focus was on being well-organized defensively, and they did an amazing job,” he added.
The Black Queens will look to bounce back on Monday when they face Moroccan club side AS FAR as part of their preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
