The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has reaffirmed the Executive Council’s commitment to advancing football in Ghana, despite the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The team’s underwhelming performance in the qualifiers, which saw them finish at the bottom of Group F with only three points from six matches, has sparked widespread criticism and calls from fans for the Executive Council to resign. This marks the first time in two decades that Ghana will miss the prestigious continental tournament.

Addressing the backlash in an interview with Joy Sports, Asante Twum made it clear that the Executive Council members remain steadfast in their roles and have no intentions of stepping down.

“There hasn’t been any indication from the Executive Council members about resigning after the Black Stars’ failure to qualify,” Asante Twum stated.

“They are fully committed to improving Ghanaian football and are focused on implementing strategies to strengthen the sport across the country,” he emphasized.

The GFA has faced mounting pressure to address systemic issues in Ghanaian football following the Black Stars’ disappointing campaign, which included three draws and three losses in their six qualifying matches.

Asante Twum’s remarks aim to reassure the public of the council’s dedication to reviving the country’s football fortunes in the face of this setback.
