Asante Kotoko’s management, in partnership with its supporters’ leadership, has announced a special night vigil to honour the memory of Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.

Pooley tragically lost his life after being fatally stabbed by unknown assailants during Asante Kotoko’s Matchday 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC at Nana Kronmansah Park in Nsoatre.

The vigil is set to take place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. It will serve as a moment of remembrance for Pooley and a continued call for justice following his untimely death.

In an official statement, Asante Kotoko extended an open invitation to all supporters, football fans, and the general public to join the solemn gathering.

“We urge all attendees to bring candles as we come together to honour our fallen brother,” the club’s management stated.

The initiative goes beyond paying tribute to Pooley; it is also part of a broader effort by Asante Kotoko and its supporters to advocate for improved security at football venues across Ghana. The tragedy has sparked widespread concern about fan safety, and the club is determined to push for necessary changes.

This vigil underscores the unity and resilience of the Asante Kotoko family as they stand in solidarity, seeking justice and honouring a life lost too soon.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has made progress in its investigation, arresting six individuals in connection with Pooley’s murder, including the owner of Nsoatreman FC, Ignatius Baffour Awuah.
