Finance Minister-designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has vowed to leave a lasting legacy in Ghana’s financial history, pledging to prioritize inflation control, cedi stabilization, and job creation if confirmed for the role.

Speaking during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, January 13, 2025, the Ajumako Enyan Essiam MP and former Deputy Finance Minister reaffirmed his dedication to delivering on his promises.

“I’ve made commitments in the past, and I intend to remain consistent. I want to be the Finance Minister who is remembered for reducing the cost of living, stabilizing the cedi, and creating opportunities for employment,” Dr. Forson stated.

Outlining his strategy to address Ghana’s economic challenges, Dr. Forson emphasized the need for swift action to provide relief to citizens. He highlighted agricultural investment as a key priority to lower food prices and ensure food security.

He also stressed the importance of collaboration between fiscal authorities and the central bank, stating, “Currency stabilization cannot be left solely to the Bank of Ghana. Fiscal authorities must work hand-in-hand with monetary policymakers.”

Dr. Forson further revealed his ambition to bring inflation down to a single-digit figure of 8%. To achieve this, he pledged to end monetary financing and implement strict fiscal consolidation measures to strengthen Ghana’s economy.

As he awaits confirmation, Dr. Forson remains optimistic about his vision to steer the country toward economic stability and growth, assuring Ghanaians of his readiness to deliver tangible results.
