Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has urged newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) to place the needs of their constituents and the nation at the forefront of their legislative duties.

During an orientation session for first-time MPs, Speaker Bagbin reminded the lawmakers of the responsibility they bear as public servants. He stressed that the trust and sacrifices made by citizens who voted them into office must be honored by remaining steadfast in their commitment to serve the public.

“You are now role models. The lives of many people depend on your actions. Don’t let them down,” Speaker Bagbin said, expressing his concern for those who have shown unwavering support for the MPs, both during the election and beyond. He urged the MPs not to take their responsibilities lightly, emphasizing that the future of their constituents is at stake.

He also warned that failing to uphold their duties could lead to serious moral and spiritual repercussions.

“It is unjust, and the Almighty God will not bless you for it,” Bagbin stated. “In truth, you’re not only serving others — you’re doing it for yourself, and you will reap what you sow.”

The Speaker’s message was clear: the success of the MPs in their roles depends on their dedication to serving the people and fulfilling the promises they made to the electorate.
