The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially removed former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from its list of wanted persons after receiving confirmation from his legal team that he will return to Ghana in May 2025.

Ofori-Atta was previously declared wanted in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation into alleged financial misconduct during his tenure. However, in a letter dated February 18, 2025, his lawyers assured the OSP of his commitment to cooperate, explaining that he was undergoing a medical procedure abroad and would return between May 14 and 30.

“Our client, who is due to return, is unable to travel before six to eight weeks post-surgical intervention, as stated in the hospital’s letter,” the legal team wrote.

“Given that the surgery is scheduled between March 20 and 21, the required recovery period means our client expects to be back in Ghana between May 14 and 30, 2025. We hope this timeline will guide your office in scheduling an in-person appearance.”

The OSP, which had declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice on February 12, has accepted the timeline as reasonable and has agreed to reschedule his interview accordingly.

However, the Special Prosecutor’s office warned that failure to return as promised would result in his reinstatement on the wanted list.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor remains committed to ensuring accountability,” the OSP stated.

“Should the former minister fail to return as indicated, all necessary legal measures will be taken to secure his appearance before the authorities.”
