The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has reiterated his faction’s opposition to the appointment of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin expressed concern over Ablakwa’s failure to provide key documents requested by the Appointments Committee, particularly regarding his earnings and assets.

“Mr. Speaker, the nominee has submitted only two out of the nine documents required by the Committee. We firmly believe that anyone seeking public office must uphold the same level of accountability they demand from others. Ablakwa has built a reputation for questioning public officials on their sources of wealth. It is only fair that he adheres to the same standards,” he argued.

The Minority Leader also accused Ablakwa of inconsistencies in his previous scrutiny of individuals’ travel histories and birth certificates, questioning the MP’s own transparency.

While clarifying that his stance was not aimed at derailing Ablakwa’s political ambitions, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the Minority could not endorse his nomination under such circumstances.

“We refuse to be part of his approval. Whatever sins lie in Airport Hills, we are not involved. He must bear his own burden. If he chooses to reform, we will welcome him back – ‘Awaawaa atoo,’” he concluded.
