President John Mahama has implemented a ban on first-class air travel for his appointees during official trips, underscoring the importance of fiscal responsibility and reducing unnecessary expenditure.

During the swearing-in ceremony of 17 newly appointed ministers at the Presidency in Accra, including eight sector ministers and nine regional ministers, President Mahama stressed the importance of prioritizing the protection of the nation’s finances.

He urged his ministers to lead by example, adopting a more modest approach to spending and avoiding luxuries, including expensive travel. The President reminded them that the public funds they manage belong to the people of Ghana, and their decisions should reflect the principles of responsible and transparent governance.

This measure is part of President Mahama’s larger goal of operating a more streamlined government, a theme that has also been reflected in his recent appointments.

Furthermore, the President hinted at the introduction of a code of conduct that would guide the conduct of his appointees in the performance of their official duties.
