Jordan Ayew is poised to lead the Black Stars in their crucial AFCON 2025 qualifying doubleheader against Sudan, stepping into the captain’s role in the absence of Thomas Partey. Partey, initially selected in Otto Addo’s 25-man squad, has been ruled out due to fitness issues. He joins fellow players Joseph Paintsil, Ibrahim Osman, and Kingsley Schindler on the injury list, leaving Ghana without several key players.

Ayew, one of the most experienced players in the squad, will carry the responsibility of steering the team through these decisive fixtures. The Black Stars, who have consistently qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations since 2004, are determined to end their 42-year trophy drought, with their last AFCON triumph dating back to 1982.

However, Ghana’s qualification campaign has been far from smooth. They are still searching for their first win, having suffered a 1-0 loss to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and drawing 1-1 with Niger in their second match. The upcoming matches against Sudan are must-wins for the team as they seek to revive their AFCON hopes.

With Ayew leading the charge, Ghana will look to secure all six points from the two fixtures, with the first leg set for October 10 and the return leg on October 15. These matches are crucial for the Black Stars as they fight to reignite their path to the 2025 AFCON.
