The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has disbanded the Black Stars Management Committee following the team’s failure to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The decision was reached during an Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, and announced in an official statement on Thursday, November 21.

In the statement, the GFA expressed gratitude to the outgoing committee members for their efforts and years of service to Ghanaian football.

“We have decided to dissolve the Management Committee of the senior national team, the Black Stars, with immediate effect. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the members for their contributions to Ghana Football,” the statement read.

The committee, led by Chairman Mark Addo and Vice Chairman Akwesi Agyeman, had faced scrutiny for their limited involvement during critical matches. Reports suggest that both Addo and Agyeman, along with member Kwame Ofosu Bamfo, were notably absent during key qualifiers, leaving Randy Abbey to act as delegation leader in their stead.

Ghana’s failure to qualify for AFCON is a significant setback, bringing to an end a remarkable 21-year run of consecutive tournament appearances. The Black Stars finished at the bottom of Group F, which included Niger, Sudan, and Angola. This marks the first time the four-time champions have failed to qualify since 2002.

The disappointment adds to a string of poor performances, including early exits in the group stages of the last two AFCON tournaments. Fans have expressed frustration with the team’s decline, amplifying calls for a thorough overhaul.

In response, the GFA apologized to Ghanaians for the failure and assured them of plans to rebuild the team and strive for better results in the future.
