The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) has thrown its support behind President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s economic policies, particularly his plans to tackle unemployment, as outlined in his 2024 manifesto.

Mahama’s blueprint emphasizes key initiatives such as the introduction of a 24-hour economy and a drive for accelerated industrialization, which are aimed at creating job opportunities and boosting economic growth.

During the inauguration of the ICU’s newly constructed office complex in Accra on Wednesday, December 18, the union’s General Secretary, Morgan Ayawine, highlighted the need for collective action to address the nation’s pressing socio-economic issues.

“We are faced with numerous challenges, but unemployment stands out as a significant burden,” Ayawine remarked.

“As leaders of workers, it’s our duty to ensure that graduates, who are left wandering the streets of Accra and other regional capitals, have access to jobs. We cannot afford to sit back and leave this responsibility solely to the government. Job creation requires a shared effort from all of us,” he added.

The ICU’s endorsement signals strong support from organized labor for Mahama’s commitment to addressing one of Ghana’s most critical challenges.
