Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 flagbearer, has identified a communication imbalance as a major challenge that affected the party’s campaign in the December 7 presidential election. He attributed this to the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) significant influence over key traditional media outlets.

Speaking to NPP communicators at his residence on Wednesday, December 18, Dr. Bawumia reflected on the party’s efforts and noted that, despite their hard work, the NDC’s dominance in the media landscape created hurdles for the campaign’s messaging strategy.

“We significantly outperformed the NDC on social media platforms,” Dr. Bawumia remarked. “It was evident that we were ahead by a wide margin. However, their control and support from influential media houses put us at a disadvantage in terms of traditional communication.”

He emphasized that the NPP communicators gave their best under the circumstances, praising their commitment and tenacity.

“You worked tirelessly whenever you had the opportunity, and I must say, I am extremely proud of your efforts,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia also pointed to the impact of an unexpectedly low voter turnout on the election results, suggesting it was another factor that shaped the final outcome.

The session with the party’s communicators marked Dr. Bawumia’s first formal engagement following the December 7 election, providing an opportunity for reflection and strategizing for the future.
