Former Black Starlets coach, Laryea Kingston, has opened up about his decision to resign from his role, citing an “unhealthy environment” as the primary reason for his departure.

The former Ghana international stepped down after the national U-17 team failed to secure a spot in the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations. The team’s hopes were dashed after being eliminated in the semifinals of the WAFU B U-17 tournament, held in Accra earlier this year.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Laryea Kingston shed light on his reasons for leaving the position, emphasizing that it was not a decision made lightly.

“I don’t see it as running away,” he stated. “It’s more about working diligently, even when no one is watching. After I resigned, I began receiving numerous emails, but for me, the environment had become too unhealthy to continue, which is why I ultimately decided to step down.”

Since parting ways with Ghana’s U-17 team, Kingston has transitioned into a new role, taking up the position of head coach at RPS Academies in the United States. His move signals a fresh chapter in his coaching career, following his stint with the Black Starlets.
