Former Ghanaian international Michael Essien has expressed no desire to become a head coach, despite being actively involved in football management.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder currently serves as an Individual Player Coach at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, where his primary focus is nurturing young talent post-retirement.

Essien has openly shared that he has no aspirations of stepping into the role of a head coach, pointing to the intense demands of the position and his preference for a more low-profile involvement in football.

However, he hinted that his stance may change in the future, leaving the door slightly open to new possibilities.

“For now, I am not thinking about being a head coach; it is too stressful. I like to be behind the scenes, away from these media duties and cameras in my face. But you never know; maybe at some point,” he told Joy Sports.

“I’ve been to many places, top clubs and everything, but the Nordsjaelland organisation is second to none” he added.

He praised the Nordsjaelland organization, stating, “I want to help take the football of young Nordsjaelland players to a different level. They need some guidance, and seeing me around gives them something to learn,” he added.

Essien represented Ghana in the 2006 and 2014 World Cups, contributing significantly to the national team during his career.
