Movement for Change Presidential Candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has urged Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to respect the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, while also advocating for a prompt response to Majority Leader Afenyo-Markin’s injunction, which temporarily suspended Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant.

Kyerematen praised Speaker Bagbin’s stance on vacating the seats but expressed that questioning the Supreme Court’s interpretive authority may have been a miscalculation. He stressed that the judiciary should acknowledge Parliament’s autonomy, particularly in matters within the Speaker’s purview, and called for constructive dialogue between branches of government to avoid potential disruptions ahead of the upcoming elections.

Kyerematen advised, “Speaker Bagbin should comply with the Supreme Court’s decision, adhering to the injunction on his initial ruling. He should subsequently file an appeal, requesting the Court to lift the injunction on grounds that no constitutional interpretation is required. Thus, Afenyo-Markin’s injunction should not necessitate judicial interpretation, as there’s no constitutional issue involved.”
