President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Ghana Police Service for its recent successes in tackling violent crime and its effective collaboration with international law enforcement agencies.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly constituted Police Council held at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, President Mahama lauded the Police for their strategic cooperation with Nigerian authorities that led to the rescue of kidnapped Ghanaians.
“I want to sincerely commend the Police Management team for your recent strides in the fight against armed robbery and your successful joint operation with Nigerian security forces that ensured the safe return of our abducted compatriots,” he said.
The President also acknowledged the Police Service's quick response in apprehending suspects in several high-profile murder cases, including the killings of mobile money agents in Kumasi, Koforidua, and Aflao, as well as the Nsawam sandpit murder.
“You deserve praise for swiftly arresting suspects involved in the murders of mobile money vendors and for your efforts in resolving the Nsawam sandpit case,” President Mahama stated.
While praising their achievements, he urged the Police leadership to remain vigilant and embrace modern methods to counter evolving criminal tactics. He assured the Service of his continued support in advancing law enforcement operations and maintaining public safety.
The newly formed Police Council, which will oversee reforms within the Ghana Police Service and help build public trust, is chaired by Vice President H.E. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. The Council includes the following members:
