John Dramani Mahama, the 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on Ghanaians to vote out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections, citing worsening economic conditions under their leadership.

Addressing a large crowd of supporters in Ayawaso East, Greater Accra Region, Mahama criticized the NPP government for its handling of the economy, claiming their policies have deepened the hardships faced by ordinary citizens. He used the soaring price of kenkey, a popular Ghanaian dish, as an example of the rising cost of living.

“Under the NPP, the price of kenkey has skyrocketed. Today, three balls of kenkey and a piece of fish cost GH¢20. This reflects the government’s failure to manage the economy effectively,” he said.

Mahama also reminded supporters of the NPP’s past criticisms of his administration. He noted that while challenges existed during his tenure, the current government, led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has performed even worse.

“The NPP once accused the NDC of poor economic management. They claimed we were sitting on money yet going hungry. But during our time, kenkey was GH¢1. Now, under their watch, it’s out of reach for many,” he stated.

Mahama urged voters to use the 2024 elections as an opportunity to hold the NPP accountable and bring about a change in leadership. He assured Ghanaians that the NDC has actionable plans to address the country’s economic challenges and ease the burdens on households.

“The power to shape the future lies in your hands. The NDC is ready to implement policies that will reduce the cost of living and promote prosperity for all,” he said.

Calling for decisive action, he added, “The NPP has failed. It’s time for them to pack their bags and leave.”
