The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that the future of Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars will be decided next week, following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The decision will be made by the Executive Council (ExCo) during a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Otto Addo, who took over the team in March 2024, oversaw a disappointing qualifying campaign in which the Black Stars failed to secure a single win. The team recorded three draws and three losses, finishing last in Group F behind Niger, Sudan, and Angola. This marked the end of a 21-year streak of consistent AFCON qualifications for Ghana.

The GFA has confirmed that Addo will meet with the ExCo to present a detailed technical report outlining the reasons for the team’s poor performance and evaluating the contributions of the technical team since his appointment.

In an official statement released on Thursday, November 21, the GFA explained:
“The Executive Council will meet the Head Coach of the Black Stars, Mr. Otto Addo, on November 27, 2024, to review his technical report on the recently concluded AFCON qualifiers and assess the overall performance of the technical team since he assumed office earlier this year.”

Addo, who replaced Chris Hughton earlier this year, signed a 34-month contract with the option to extend for an additional two years. While his tenure has come under intense scrutiny following the AFCON failure, the GFA has yet to reveal whether he will continue leading the team.

As Ghana seeks to regroup, attention now turns to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which begin in March 2025. The Black Stars are set to face Chad and Madagascar in their opening fixtures, with hopes of rebuilding and restoring confidence in the team’s capabilities.
