The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health is set to embark on a comprehensive four-day nationwide tour of Regional and Teaching Hospitals from Tuesday, April 22 to Friday, April 25, 2025. The initiative aims to evaluate the current state of healthcare facilities, identify pressing challenges, and recommend strategic interventions to enhance healthcare delivery across the country.

According to a statement issued by Parliament’s Director of Media Relations, David Sebastian Damoah, the exercise is a key part of the Committee’s mandate to oversee the nation’s health systems and ensure Ghanaians have access to quality and effective healthcare services.

To cover more ground efficiently, Committee members have been split into three teams.

  • Team One will tour health facilities in the northern sector, including the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, Nalerigu Regional Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Tamale Regional Hospital, and Wa Regional Hospital.

  • Team Two will focus on the middle belt, visiting the Damongo, Techiman, Sunyani, and Goaso Regional Hospitals.

  • Team Three will assess major institutions in the southern zone: Kumasi Regional Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Koforidua Regional Hospital, Ho Regional Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.

“The tour is designed to give Members of Parliament firsthand insights into the state of infrastructure, healthcare delivery, and operational challenges faced by these facilities,” Mr. Damoah said. He added that MPs will engage directly with healthcare professionals and administrators to better understand the needs of both providers and patients.

The Committee is calling on stakeholders in the healthcare sector to take an active part in the exercise, offering feedback and recommendations that can shape more responsive and sustainable health policies.

As part of its oversight responsibilities, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health continues to monitor the effectiveness, accessibility, and equity of Ghana’s healthcare system. This field visit is expected to contribute valuable data for national policy decisions aimed at strengthening the health sector for all citizens.
