Parliament is set to begin the fifth meeting of its fourth session today, October 15, 2024, at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre, a temporary venue due to ongoing renovations in the main parliamentary chamber.

This change of location was announced by Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, in a statement released on September 30, 2024. The upcoming session is expected to focus on several key bills and agreements vital to the country’s development plans.

Recently, during a special two-day emergency session at the same venue, Parliament approved a $250 million loan agreement from the World Bank to support Ghana’s Energy Sector Recovery Programme. The loan had initially been rejected before Parliament went on recess, but the government pushed for its approval, citing its importance to reviving the energy sector and fostering economic recovery.

The emergency session, held on September 3, 2024, was convened primarily to reconsider the previously rejected loan, which is viewed as crucial for financing the country’s energy recovery efforts.

As Parliament reconvenes after a brief recess, this meeting is expected to address key national issues and move forward with significant legislative priorities. MPs will be deliberating on various bills and agreements that are instrumental in shaping Ghana’s development agenda.
