The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has disclosed that the fate of Black Stars coach Otto Addo will be determined at the next Executive Council meeting.

The 49-year-old coach’s position has come under scrutiny following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) — the first time the team has missed the tournament in two decades.

Ghana’s performance in the qualifiers was dismal, with the Black Stars recording three losses and three draws in six matches, finishing at the bottom of Group F with only three points. Overall, the team secured just two wins in 10 games throughout 2024, further fueling criticism of Addo’s tenure.

Calls for Otto Addo’s removal have intensified, but according to Asante Twum, no decision has been finalized despite the coach submitting his technical report to the GFA’s Executive Council.

“On the day Otto Addo presented his report, the Executive Council met for about seven hours, and members discussed critical areas such as player management, tactics, and squad selections,” Asante Twum shared during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“Every council member, except Kwesi Appiah, shared their views. However, I cannot confidently say whether the general sentiment is for him [Otto Addo] to stay or leave because no decision was made during that meeting,” he clarified.

Asante Twum confirmed that a conclusive decision on Addo’s future will be made during the Council’s upcoming meeting.

Otto Addo, who succeeded Chris Hughton as head coach, was reappointed in March 2024 on a three-year contract with an option for a two-year extension.
