Investigative journalist Manasseh Awuni Azure has called on President John Dramani Mahama’s administration to ensure that the probe into the findings of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team is not used to target political opponents.

Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM, Azure emphasized the need for an impartial and all-encompassing investigation that includes members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). He argued that such an approach would dispel concerns about political witch-hunting and enhance the credibility of the committee’s work.

“The ORAL prosecution should not focus solely on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Some of the newly appointed officials may already be involved in questionable deals that could cost taxpayers money. To truly succeed in this mission, we must ensure that no NDC member is shielded,” he cautioned.

ORAL Report Uncovers Widespread Corruption Complaints

The ORAL Committee, chaired by North Tongu MP and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, was tasked with investigating corruption allegations and tracing misappropriated state resources. After 53 days of work, the committee submitted its report on Monday, February 10, 2025.

According to Ablakwa, the team received 2,417 complaints related to suspected corruption cases—1,493 through a toll-free call service and 924 via email. The findings highlight significant concerns over financial misconduct in both past and present administrations.

Government Moves Towards Prosecutions

Following the report’s submission, President Mahama has instructed Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, to launch immediate investigations to facilitate the prosecution of individuals implicated in corrupt activities.

With the administration under pressure to demonstrate fairness, the handling of the ORAL report is expected to be a crucial test of its commitment to fighting corruption beyond political lines.
