OSP Denies Receiving Hospital Report Declaring Ofori-Atta Unfit to Return to Ghana

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has firmly denied media reports suggesting it has received a hospital-issued medical report declaring former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta medically unfit to return to Ghana.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, June 3, the OSP clarified that neither Mr. Ofori-Atta nor his legal team has submitted any such documentation to its office.

“We wish to place on record that neither Mr. Ofori-Atta nor his lawyers have submitted any such letter to the OSP,” the agency stated unequivocally.

According to the OSP, the only formal communication it has received from Mr. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers was a general update on his medical condition—based solely on their own assertions and not supported by any accompanying medical report.

The OSP also questioned the credibility and intent behind the alleged hospital letter, noting that it has been disseminated through media outlets rather than delivered through appropriate legal or procedural channels. “It is notable that this alleged hospital letter has been circulated through the media rather than submitted to the law enforcement agency actively investigating him,” the OSP added.

As of the release date of the statement, the Special Prosecutor’s office confirmed that it has not received any certified medical documents or official communication from a healthcare provider that would validate claims that Mr. Ofori-Atta is incapacitated or unable to travel.

The OSP reiterated its commitment to due process in its ongoing investigation and implied that Mr. Ofori-Atta’s legal team has failed to engage formally with the office in accordance with proper legal procedures.
