The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has renewed calls for a comprehensive forensic audit of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, January 11, Dr. Omane Boamah highlighted the importance of this audit as a necessary step toward protecting the credibility of future elections. He emphasized that such an investigation is critical for ensuring transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the country’s electoral processes.

Expressing his appreciation to participants of the recent “Enough Is Enough” demonstration, Dr. Omane Boamah described the call for an audit of the 2024 voters’ register and the EC’s IT systems as a patriotic responsibility.

He pointed to several alarming issues that he believes underscore the need for a forensic audit. These include reports of illegal voter transfers, the unexplained deletion of names from the voters’ register, and the theft of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) equipment from the EC’s headquarters, despite the presence of 24-hour military and police security.

Dr. Omane Boamah also raised concerns over irregularities during the 2024 elections, such as the production of questionable ballot papers and the theft of ballots, which disrupted special voting in the Eastern and Western regions. These incidents, he noted, necessitated the reprinting of ballots, further complicating the process.

He called for a thorough investigation to uncover the individuals and accomplices responsible for these anomalies, stressing the need to hold those involved accountable.

Dr. Omane Boamah urged all stakeholders, including democracy advocates, to support the demand for a forensic audit, adding that revisiting these issues is vital for restoring trust in Ghana’s electoral system and preventing similar challenges in future elections.

“Protecting the integrity of our elections is a shared responsibility,” he stated, encouraging continued dialogue and action to strengthen Ghana’s democratic institutions.
