Akufo-Addo will commission the Flower Pot interchange today.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to officially open the newly constructed Flowerpot Interchange on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

The project, which includes a flyover and an improved motorway interchange, is designed to complement the recently completed underpass and provide an alternative route for North-South travel in Accra.

Spanning 800 meters, the flyover begins near the Palace Mall on Spintex Road and connects to Boundary Road in East Legon. Key additions include ramps leading to the Accra-Tema Motorway, upgraded approaches at the Flowerpot roundabout on Spintex Road, and improved access through the existing tunnel to East Legon.

The interchange is expected to significantly improve travel between the northern and southern sections of the Accra-Tema Motorway. It also aims to ease congestion at the busy Flowerpot intersection and provide a more direct link between East Accra (including Burma Camp and its environs) and East Legon.

Once operational, the interchange is anticipated to transform commuting experiences, enhancing traffic flow and reducing travel time in one of Accra’s most critical transit zones.
