The Acting Director of the National Service Authority, Felix Gyamfi, has assured National Service personnel that all delayed allowances will be fully disbursed starting tomorrow, following a directive from President John Mahama.

Speaking on Joy FM’s PM Express, Gyamfi commended the President for taking swift action to clear the backlog, highlighting Mahama’s longstanding concern about delays in payments to service personnel.

“We should appreciate President John Mahama. Even before he assumed office, he expressed concerns about these payment delays, especially considering that service personnel receive only ¢715 per month—a modest amount, given the prevailing inflation. Once we presented the figures to him, he immediately approved the full payment of all outstanding allowances,” Gyamfi stated.

Delayed Payments from August to December to Be Settled

He confirmed that arrears from August through December would be paid, offering much-needed financial relief to thousands of service personnel.

“Starting tomorrow, personnel will begin receiving all outstanding payments covering August, September, October, November, and December,” he assured.

Systemic Corruption Blamed for Payment Delays

Gyamfi attributed the persistent delays in recent years to corruption and inefficiencies within the system, which he believes deprived service personnel of their rightful earnings.

“For the past eight years, these delays have been linked to widespread corruption and mismanagement. It’s baffling why such a modest allowance could not be paid on time,” he lamented.

Potential Allowance Increase Under Consideration

Addressing the possibility of increasing the current allowance, Gyamfi hinted at President Mahama’s commitment to improving conditions for service personnel.

“I believe President Mahama is already considering how to redirect savings from reducing corruption and inefficiencies. The discussion is ongoing, and I’m sure he’s thinking about how to enhance support for service personnel,” he revealed.

With payments set to resume and a renewed government focus on efficiency and anti-corruption measures, Gyamfi expressed optimism that service personnel can expect a more reliable payment system moving forward.
