The Acting Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kofi Baah Acheamfour, has vowed to mobilize a demonstration against the government if swift action is not taken against a soldier who fatally shot one Akwasi Lala, popularly known as Kusivi, for allegedly wearing a military uniform.

Mr. Acheamfour issued the warning during a visit to the bereaved family at Nyinahin, where he expressed deep anger over the incident. According to him, the conduct of the soldiers was not only unprofessional but also inhumane. He questioned why Kusivi, if suspected of wrongdoing, was not simply arrested and handed over to the police rather than being shot.

“Kusivi was no criminal. He did not deserve this brutal end,” Acheamfour insisted, describing the shooting as a grave injustice.

He further announced a two-week deadline for the government to act. Specifically, he called on the Minister of Defense, Dr. Omane Boamah, and his deputy, Hon. Brogya Gyamfi, to ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated and the responsible soldier is held accountable. “If I do not hear anything from the government within two weeks, I, Baah Acheamfour, will personally lead a demonstration in this town against the government,” he declared.

Acheamfour emphasized that the President, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, must ensure the military respects the rights and dignity of civilians.

Sharing a personal note, he revealed that he knew Kusivi personally and lauded his contributions to the NDC’s success in the 2024 elections. Acheamfour described him as a loyal and hardworking party member whose death is a painful loss to the NDC.

As the ultimatum approaches its end, attention now turns to whether the government will act on the demands of the NDC and provide justice for Kusivi.
