Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has expressed confidence in the newly appointed Black Queens head coach, Kim Lars Björkegren, describing him as highly skilled and experienced in women’s football.

Björkegren, a Swedish tactician, was recently named head coach of Ghana’s senior women’s team on a two-year deal. He replaces Nora Hauptle, whose tenure ended without a contract renewal.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Asante Twum highlighted Björkegren’s credentials and assured fans of his capability to lead the Black Queens to success.

“Two days ago, we introduced Kim Lars Björkegren as the new head coach for the Black Queens. It’s refreshing news. He has signed a two-year contract,” he stated.

“Kim has extensive experience in women’s football. After Nora Hauptle’s exit, there were many concerns, but we followed the same rigorous process that brought Nora on board, and we are confident in his abilities,” he added.

While acknowledging that this is Björkegren’s first coaching role in Africa, Asante Twum underscored his proven track record as a championship-winning coach.

“Kim is a champion, though he hasn’t worked in Africa before. This will be his first experience on the continent, but we believe he has what it takes to lead the team,” he noted.

He called on Ghanaians to rally behind the new coach just as they did for his predecessor.

“I plead with everyone to offer him the same support we gave Nora Hauptle so we can compete effectively and strive for titles,” Asante Twum urged.

The GFA Communications Director also revealed that the Black Queens will play a series of friendly matches next month as part of their preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) set to take place in Morocco later this year.

“The Black Queens will be engaged in friendly games next month to gear up for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations,” he confirmed.

Kim Lars Björkegren is set to be officially unveiled next month as he begins his tenure to guide the Black Queens toward success on the continental stage.
