Court Eases Bail Conditions for Former Minister and Others in Murder Case

The Sunyani District Court ‘B’ has revised the bail conditions for former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, granting him the freedom to travel outside the Sunyani Municipality.

Baffour-Awuah, who is also the owner of Nsoatreman FC, was previously required to report to the police three times a week. However, the court, presided over by Eric Daning, ruled on Monday that he now needs to report only once weekly. His bail remains set at GH¢500,000.

The former minister is one of eight suspects standing trial in connection with the murder of Francis Frimpong, a supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC, popularly known as ‘Pooley’. The incident occurred on February 2, 2025, during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC at the Nsoatre Professor Amoah Koromansah II stadium.

Alongside Baffour-Awuah, other accused individuals—Joseph Kyeremeh, Elizabeth Akosua Ntiwaa, and Yaa Asantewaa—also had their bail conditions reviewed. They, too, can now travel beyond Sunyani and must report to the police once a week. All four face charges of “abetment to commit crime, to wit murder” under Sections 20(1) and 46 of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act 29). Their next court appearance is scheduled for March 10, 2025.

Meanwhile, three other suspects, Isaac Fosu, Augustine Yeboah, and Yaw Koshy, who face direct murder charges, were denied bail and will remain in custody until their next hearing on March 3, 2025.

Additionally, Police Inspector Agyemang Duah Owusu, who is also implicated in the case, was granted bail of GH¢300,000 with two sureties. However, he must report to the police daily and surrender his passport to the court registry within three days.

The case continues to unfold as the court prepares for the next hearings in March.
