President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that his government will require $1.7 billion to complete the unfinished Agenda 111 hospital projects inherited from the previous administration.

During a meeting with the Christian Council, Mahama revealed that nearly 90 hospitals under the initiative remain incomplete, with some commissioned facilities lacking essential medical equipment.

“The previous government initiated Agenda 111 but failed to complete many of the hospitals. Even those that were commissioned don’t have a single bed,” he lamented.

To speed up the project’s completion, Mahama proposed working with religious institutions, suggesting that mission hospitals could take over some of the unfinished facilities in areas where they already operate.

“If a mission hospital exists in a particular area, we will not build a competing facility. Instead, we will channel resources into strengthening these mission hospitals to enhance healthcare services,” he explained.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to healthcare development, Mahama assured Ghanaians that completing the Agenda 111 hospitals remains a top priority to improve medical access across the country.
