The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced the suspension of the implementation of the National Roads Authority Act 2024 (Act 1118) to allow for additional consultations with stakeholders.

In a statement released on February 7, 2025, the Ministry explained that the decision was made after concerns from key stakeholders were raised regarding the Act’s provisions.

The National Roads Authority Act, passed by Parliament in July 2024, was intended to streamline Ghana’s road infrastructure management by consolidating the Ghana Highway Authority, the Department of Urban Roads, and the Department of Feeder Roads into a single, more efficient entity.

The Ministry emphasized that the suspension would enable further dialogue to address these concerns while reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving the efficiency and coordination within the road sector.

“The suspension of the NRA Act reflects our commitment to addressing concerns raised by stakeholders. We remain dedicated to enhancing the sector’s operations and ensuring better coordination in managing road infrastructure,” the statement said.
