The Ghana Premier League (GPL) is set to return on Friday, March 7, following a three-week suspension, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed.

The league was put on hold after the tragic death of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, during a Matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC at Nana Kronmansah Park.

According to the GFA, the resumption of the league depends on the completion of ongoing safety and security assessments at all venues in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

To curb future incidents of violence, the FA has also taken steps to enhance matchday safety protocols, including the training of stakeholders on improved security measures.

Asante Kotoko, who had initially threatened to pull out of all competitions until justice was served, have now confirmed their return to action on March 6.

Additionally, the FA has rescheduled Kotoko’s postponed MTN FA Cup match against Sekondi Eleven Wise for Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

Revised Premier League Fixture Dates

  • Matchday 20: Tuesday, March 18 – Thursday, March 20
  • Matchday 21: Tuesday, April 1 – Thursday, April 3
  • Matchday 22: Tuesday, April 15 – Thursday, April 17

With these changes, fans can anticipate the league’s return under reinforced safety measures to ensure a more secure football environment.
