President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, is set to visit Asante Kotoko today to address growing security concerns in Ghanaian football.

Okraku will meet with the club’s leadership at their secretariat at 13:00 GMT as part of ongoing efforts to improve safety at football venues. The discussion comes in the wake of the tragic death of Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, widely known as Nana Pooley.

Pooley was fatally stabbed at Nana Kronmansah Park during Asante Kotoko’s Matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC, a shocking incident that has intensified calls for stronger security measures at league games.

In response, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak issued a joint statement urging the GFA and relevant authorities to take immediate action to enhance safety. This led to a meeting between Okraku and representatives of both clubs on Monday at the GFA headquarters in Accra.

Today’s meeting will specifically address concerns raised by Asante Kotoko in their statement.

Following Pooley’s death, the Ghana Premier League was suspended, and Kotoko declared they would not participate in any competitive matches until justice is served. As a result, their FA Cup Round of 16 fixture against Sekondi Eleven Wise, originally scheduled for this week, has been postponed.

Despite their stance, Kotoko resumed training on Wednesday at their Adako Jachie facility, with 19 players taking part in the session.
