Asante Kotoko has confirmed their return to competitive football following the final burial rites of their late supporter, Francis Frimpong, affectionately known as Nana Pooley.

The club had temporarily stepped away from all football activities after Nana Pooley’s tragic passing at Nana Kronmansah Park in Nsoatre during their Matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC.

Although the team resumed training on Wednesday, they opted out of the FA Cup Round of 16 matches. However, at a press conference, the club’s Head of Public Relations, Lawyer Sarfo Duku, announced that Kotoko will be back in action after the burial of their dedicated fan.

“With everything considered, Asante Kotoko will be ready to return to the pitch following the final funeral rites of the late Nana Pooley,” Duku stated.

The funeral has been scheduled for March 6, after which the team is expected to fully resume competitive play.

Addressing concerns that some supporters were not directly consulted before the decision, Duku explained the club’s reasoning.

“We have obligations, including player salaries and CAF calendar commitments. Our fans are informed of every step we take and actively participate in stakeholder meetings,” he clarified.

Prior to this, Asante Kotoko, in collaboration with rivals Hearts of Oak, had issued a joint statement urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to implement key reforms within the league.
