Mahama directs Lands Commission to halt sale of state lands

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a directive halting all activities related to the sale, lease, or processing of transactions involving state and public lands.

The announcement, made through a statement from Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, on January 10, 2025, is intended to safeguard these lands for the collective welfare of citizens and future generations.

Effective immediately, the directive mandates the suspension of all ongoing and pending transactions. This pause will allow for a comprehensive review of the policies and procedures governing the management of state and public lands.

To ensure accountability, the Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission has been tasked with submitting a detailed report on all recent and ongoing transactions involving state and public lands. This report is to be presented to the Office of the President within 14 days of the directive.
