The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that all withheld results of candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be released by February 28, 2025.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, February 7, WAEC disclosed that investigations into alleged examination malpractice and irregularities are almost complete.

John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, assured the public that the council remains committed to resolving all outstanding issues promptly.

“The Council has continued hearings for affected candidates and has been releasing results where necessary. We assure all stakeholders that all cases of malpractice will be concluded, and the results will be released by February 28,” Mr. Kapi stated.

This development comes in response to mounting pressure, including legal action and threats of nationwide protests by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), over the withheld results.

WAEC cited various forms of malpractice, including the use of foreign materials, mobile phone smuggling, photocopying answers, and collusion during exams. The council confirmed that over 10,500 results remain withheld due to these infractions.

Meanwhile, private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, representing affected candidates, filed a motion for Mandamus to compel WAEC to release the results.

On January 30, 2025, the Accra High Court ruled in favor of the candidates, ordering WAEC to release the withheld results immediately. Presiding Judge Justice Ali Baba Abature noted that the reasons given by WAEC—alleged malpractice and irregularities—were ambiguous and unjustified, especially since no invigilators had reported any such incidents during the examination.

With the court’s directive and WAEC’s commitment, students and parents eagerly await the final resolution of the matter.
