Minister for Green John Jinapor exposes $500K auction fraud at ECGEnergy Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has given firm assurances that the ongoing power supply issues in Ghana will be resolved by the end of May 2025.

In an interview with TV3 on May 9, the minister attributed the current disruptions in electricity supply to essential maintenance activities being undertaken on thermal power plants nationwide. He explained that these maintenance works, though inconvenient in the short term, are critical for long-term energy stability.

According to Jinapor, the need for these repairs stems from deferred servicing that should have taken place in 2024 but was overlooked by the previous administration.

“What we’ve discovered is that many of our thermal plants were due for regular maintenance last year, but unfortunately that wasn’t carried out. Now, as we catch up on those essential works, some power interruptions are inevitable. But these efforts are vital to make the plants more robust and reliable,” he said.

He projected that most of the major maintenance would be completed by the end of May, with only minor works continuing into June. “If all goes as planned, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, Ghanaians can expect a significantly improved power supply situation from June onward,” he noted.

Jinapor also highlighted the urgency of the situation, revealing that several of the country’s power plants had exceeded their recommended operating hours and now require immediate servicing. “Delaying maintenance any further could severely damage the equipment,” he warned.

He urged the public to remain patient as the government works to restore stability to the power sector. “We’re doing everything possible to minimize the impact of these disruptions, but this is a necessary step. It’s the responsible thing to do,” he assured.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring consistent and reliable electricity for all, stating that no effort would be spared in strengthening the country’s power infrastructure.
