Parliament’s Appointments Committee will begin the vetting of seven Supreme Court nominees from Monday, June 16 to Wednesday, June 18, 2025. The nominees, all currently serving on the Court of Appeal, were put forward by President John Dramani Mahama on April 30, 2025, under Article 144 (2) of the 1992 Constitution.

Those nominated for elevation to the apex court are:

  • Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei

  • Justice Gabriel Simon Suurbaareh

  • Justice Senyo Dzamefe

  • Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo

  • Justice Philip Bright Mensah

  • Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo

  • Justice Hafisata Amaleboba

The Appointments Committee will assess each nominee’s legal acumen, professional experience, and overall suitability for the Supreme Court bench. Their approval or rejection ultimately rests with Parliament.

This round of vetting is expected to attract significant public interest, as it marks a pivotal moment in President Mahama’s efforts to reshape and strengthen the judiciary. The process comes amid heightened attention to the independence and effectiveness of Ghana’s judicial system.

Observers say the outcome of these vettings could have a lasting impact on the legal landscape and the interpretation of constitutional law in the years ahead.
