The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has refuted any involvement in the recent raid at the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, describing the incident as a staged attempt by Ofori-Atta himself to mislead the public.
Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, addressed the matter at a press conference on Wednesday, where he also declared Ofori-Atta a wanted fugitive in connection with several corruption investigations.
“Mr. Ofori-Atta, the OSP did not raid your house on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, or on any other date,” Agyebeng stated firmly. “The OSP did not authorize any individual, in uniform or otherwise, to raid your residence on February 11, 2025, or on any other occasion.”
He emphasized that if the OSP were to conduct a search, it would be clear and unmistakable, with no doubts about the agency’s involvement. “If the OSP enters your premises, there will be no confusion. Your lawyers will have no reason to question whether it was the OSP,” he added.
Agyebeng further clarified that the OSP follows strict protocols when carrying out searches, ensuring that their presence is fully identifiable and above board.
The raid took place on Tuesday afternoon at Ofori-Atta’s residence in Cantonments, with reports indicating that Ofori-Atta is currently in the United States receiving medical treatment. However, his wife and other family members were reportedly at home during the incident.
Eyewitnesses described a group of about 12 individuals, some dressed in military and police uniforms, while others were in plain clothes. Despite these claims, Agyebeng insisted the OSP had no role in the operation.
“I have no personal issues with anyone,” Agyebeng remarked. “This is not a personal vendetta. I took this office and swore an oath to defend the constitution, not to pursue personal agendas.”
The Special Prosecutor’s office continues to investigate Mr. Ofori-Atta on multiple corruption charges, with Agyebeng urging him to return to Ghana to face the charges or risk facing extradition.
