The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has unveiled plans for its Golden Jubilee celebration in 2025, marking 50 years of championing musicians’ rights and promoting Ghanaian music.

During the launch event on November 7, 2024, held at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons shared details of the exciting lineup of activities planned for the milestone anniversary. The celebrations will feature a series of concerts, symposiums, lectures, and a grand gala dinner, all aimed at honoring Ghana’s rich musical heritage.

A highlight of the jubilee festivities will be an all-women’s music festival, a unique event to celebrate female musicians from around the world. “We are organizing an all-women festival,” Simons announced, explaining that international participants will be self-sponsored, with embassies promoting the festival globally to draw talent from diverse backgrounds.

The anniversary events will range from outdoor and indoor performances to church services, and there are discussions about including a special performance by prominent gospel artists like Cece Winans, fostering opportunities for collaboration and cultural exchange.

“We are inviting female musicians from across the globe. For those coming from outside Ghana, it will be self-sponsored, with embassies helping to promote it,” Simons said. “We want to create harmony between artists from Ghana and other countries through this initiative.”

Founded on December 9, 1975, MUSIGA has spent the past five decades advocating for musicians’ rights, fostering industry growth, and preserving Ghana’s musical legacy.
