Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called on the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, to address concerns regarding the slow pace of corruption investigations and prosecutions.

Kpebu’s remarks come after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) announced that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was now a suspect in four major corruption cases, including those related to the National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) contracts.

During a press briefing on February 12, Agyebeng revealed that Ofori-Atta was wanted for questioning and must return to Ghana immediately. The Special Prosecutor also warned that legal action could be pursued to enforce compliance if necessary.

However, Kpebu expressed dissatisfaction with the way Agyebeng has handled the cases, questioning his management style and the delays in prosecuting prominent figures.

“Kissi Agyebeng’s approach to case management needs to be closely scrutinized. He must come and explain how he is handling these cases. We cannot just continue offering him support without holding him accountable,” Kpebu said during an appearance on Channel One TV.

He further criticized Agyebeng for using former President Akufo-Addo as a scapegoat, pointing out that the excuse of presidential interference no longer holds weight.

“The time for blaming Akufo-Addo is over. If we keep doing that, it will allow many issues to be swept under the rug. I am not satisfied with the pace at which things are moving,” Kpebu added.

His comments reflect a growing public demand for more effective and timely action from the Office of the Special Prosecutor in tackling corruption cases.
