I inherited ‘dumsor’ but fixed it before leaving office – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed accusations that he was responsible for the energy crisis, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor,’ during his tenure.

Speaking during a visit to the chiefs and people of Asutifi South constituency as part of his Ahafo regional tour, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer acknowledged that he inherited the persistent power outages when he assumed office.

Mahama explained that the challenges in the energy sector, including declining power generation, worsened under his administration, but he made significant efforts to address them. He admitted that ‘dumsor’ was a major issue during his presidency but asserted that he took responsibility and successfully managed to resolve the crisis before leaving office.

“Leadership is about taking responsibility and not blaming others. So with the knowledge I had, when a crisis befell the nation, I didn’t apportion blame but I fixed it.

“Dumsor didn’t start during my tenure, it was only that the demand for electricity went up, so we needed to increase the generation capacity, and I took it upon myself to resolve the issue. I went to parliament and through that, we brought the Ameri and KAR power plants to boost the capacity,” he stated.

Mr. Mahama in the meeting also urged the constituents to reject the NPP on December 7 due to the failure of the Akufo-Addo- Bawumia led government who always blame others for their crisis.
