Ghana’s Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has revealed the government’s plan to completely phase out the Double-Track system in Senior High Schools by the year 2027.

Addressing members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) during a meeting in Sunyani, in the Bono Region, the Minister assured that comprehensive educational reforms are in the pipeline to support this transition.

According to Iddrisu, the phase-out will be anchored on two major pillars: an overhaul of the national curriculum and a strategic restructuring of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). These efforts, he said, are designed to create a more efficient and sustainable senior high school system.

“A revised curriculum is critical to achieving this goal,” he stated. “And by Monday, a new board will be in place to oversee all spending related to these reforms. We want proper oversight and accountability as we make these investments.”

The Minister stressed that the GETFund would be central to upgrading school infrastructure nationwide, ensuring that facilities can accommodate all students under a single-track system.

He expressed confidence that with the planned investments and reforms, the Double-Track system—a measure originally introduced to manage overcrowding in schools—will be a thing of the past by 2027.
