Ghana has reported a third case of MPOX in the Greater Accra Region, bringing the total number of recent cases to three. The Ghana Health Service (GHS) made the announcement, reassuring the public that appropriate measures are in place to monitor and manage the situation effectively.

Dr. Dennis Laryea, Deputy Director of Public Health at GHS and head of Disease Surveillance, confirmed that the latest case was identified last week. While investigations have been carried out in the region, no additional cases have been found among the contacts of the confirmed patient. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely for any new symptoms.

The contacts of the latest case are under surveillance to prevent further spread of the virus.

Ghana’s first reported case of MPOX occurred in August in the Western Region, where 25 contacts were identified. The country’s second case emerged soon after, when the patient’s mother also tested positive, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to two as of October 31.
