The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the presidential election results for the 2024 elections will first be declared at the Regional Collation Centres before the final announcement is made at the EC’s headquarters. This new approach, according to Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, the EC’s Deputy Chairperson for Corporate Services, is aimed at enhancing transparency throughout the process.

Dr. Bossman Asare explained that all political parties have agreed to this format, ensuring that their representatives will be present at polling stations and collation centres to oversee the process. “For every constituency, there will be a representative assisting with the collation, and the same structure applies at the regional level,” he said. He emphasized that this procedure aligns with CI 127, which includes regional collation as part of the presidential election process.

Following the collection of results from polling stations, they will first be sent to constituency collation centres, and subsequently forwarded to regional centres where the presidential results will be publicly announced. Dr. Bossman Asare shared this information on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the launch of the Election Day Observation and Post-Election Action Plan by the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO).

This initiative allows voters to track election results as they are announced on a regional basis, ensuring greater transparency. The EC is optimistic that this change will contribute to another peaceful, inclusive, and transparent election process.

CODEO also plans to deploy 4,000 observers across polling stations nationwide to monitor the elections. Election observation has become a vital tool for assessing the credibility and fairness of electoral processes globally. Members of the diplomatic community have praised CODEO for its consistent role in ensuring credible elections in Ghana.
