The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has declared former President John Dramani Mahama the winner of the 2024 presidential election, even as results from nine constituencies remain outstanding.

Speaking at a press conference, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa explained that the yet-to-be-received results would not alter the overall outcome.

“Ghanaians have made their voices heard at the polls, and as a Commission, we respect that choice,” she said. “Although results from nine constituencies are still pending, their inclusion will not impact the final results.”

According to the EC’s collated data from 267 constituencies, Mr. Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, garnered 6,328,397 votes, translating to 56.55%. His closest rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), obtained 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.

The total number of registered voters for the election was 18,774,159, out of which 11,430,531 ballots were cast. Of these, 239,109 were rejected, leaving 11,191,422 valid votes. The overall voter turnout stood at 60.9%.

Mrs. Mensa assured the public that the Commission would provide updates once results from the remaining nine constituencies were received, underscoring the EC's commitment to transparency throughout the electoral process.
